IOGA Governmental Affairs Committee

Purpose: The Governmental Affairs Committee is a standing IOGA committees and provides advice, guidance and direction to the IOGA membership, the President and Executive Committee, the Board of Directors and staff regarding decision making related to the following:
- The relationship between the outfitting industry and governmental entities
- Potential legislation of interest to the industry
- Proposed agency regulations and resource management agency plans
- The review of IOGA resolutions related to the above
Role: The role of the Committee is to meet annually during the annual IOGA meeting and as needed through phone contact and/or electronic communication, to assist the President, Executive Committee, Board of Directors and IOGA staff with governmental affairs decision making.
Make-up: Members of the Committee are representative of the three IOGA sections. The IOGA bylaws say this, “Leadership and membership on committees shall be appointed and/or approved by the Board of Directors. In the absence of a formal Board of Directors meeting, the President may make appointments to a new committee or to an existing committee as necessary to allow the full function of the committee. Should the President invoke this option, the appointment will be placed before the Board of Directors at their next regular meeting for either ratification or re-appointment of the members to the committee.”
Procedures & Communication: The committee shall operate using parliamentary procedure. The committee chair and the executive director jointly develop meeting agendas with committee input. Committee meeting agendas shall be distributed in advance of the meetings. The committee chair shall be responsible for ensuring that meeting notes are taken and distributed to the committee and the IOGA staff. The committee chair shall provide a report to the board of directors, preferably in conjunction with the annual IOGA membership meeting. This report to the membership can be delegated. The committee chair is encouraged to use IOGA communication tools (newsletters and bulletins) or other means to provide the larger membership with periodic updates. The executive director shall provide information on governmental affairs topics and issues as necessary. The flow of governmental affairs information should be inclusive of IOGA chapters.
Relationships: The committee chair and members work closely with the Executive Director and receive advice from the IOGA lobbyist on state legislative and/or state agency topics/issues. The committee is encouraged to work with the other IOGA committees as deemed appropriate and necessary.
