Idaho Hiking, Biking and Rock-Climbing Trips
Guided Hiking Trips
Hike and camp in beautiful, remote areas of Idaho without ever carrying a heavy pack. Idaho outfitters will pack your gear in on horses or llamas. On drop-camp trips, they drop you off and return another day to pick you up and pack you out. On fully outfitted trips, they provide all food and camping equipment. While you carry a daypack and enjoy spectacular scenery, outfitters set up camp and cook and clean up while telling stories about the history and ecology of the region.
Rafts and dories can also carry all the gear while you walk along a wild and scenic Idaho river. Idaho outfitters offer rafting/hiking trips along the Salmon River in the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness and along the Snake River in Hells Canyon. Supply boats float ahead to set up camp and prepare meals while guests enjoy the walking tour.
Hikers also enjoy staying at Idaho guest ranches as a home base for daily hiking expeditions. Guest ranch outfitters are knowledgeable about trails, geology, flowers, hot springs and historic sites in their area. They can send you in a new direction each day, with or without a guide, and have a warm meal waiting when you return.
Road biking and mountain biking
Guided Idaho bike trips range from van-assisted rides on scenic two-lane paved or dirt roads to super-cool singletrack rides in the mountains. Bikers follow roads and ridge lines across the Sawtooth, Smoky, Selkirk, Salmon, Bitterroot and Cougar Mountains. They circle lakes and follow creeks and rivers. They even cross the lava fields of the Craters of the Moon National Monument. They visit homestead cabins and gold mining ghost towns. They retrace Nez Perce Indian trails, stagecoach routes and the path of explorers Lewis and Clark.
Cyclists enjoy awesome scenery while Idaho guides take care of food, gear, and accommodations. Many outfitted bike trips end each day of pedaling at a comfortable lodge, guest ranch or bed and breakfast. Other trips stay outdoors: outfitters set up camp and cook meals in a mountain meadow, next to a natural hot springs or alongside a wild and scenic river.
Ask about biking trips combined with river rafting trips. Bring your own bike or ask the outfitter to provide all equipment. Many outfitters will customize biking trips for individual groups.
Rock Climbing and Ice Climbing
Idaho outfitters provide guided rock-climbing trips in City of Rocks, a world-class destination, the Salmon River Canyon, the Sawtooth Mountains, Slick Rock near McCall and Idaho's highest peak, Mt. Borah. These expeditions can range from a few hours of beginning bouldering to half-day or full-day rock-climbing adventures, ice climbs and multi-pitch assents.
